THE HOMEOPATHIC PROVING OF HYDROGEN
by the Dynamis School of Homoeopathy, proving director Jeremy Sherr, Paperback
reviewed by Louis Klein

After agreeing to write a book review of this book, and then reading it or should I say attempting to read it, I realized how inadequate my training was to make any comments about a proving. Especially since I have not conducted one myself.

In spite of this I have read or attempted to decipher hundreds of provings though. I can say, definitely, that this looks like other provings, it reads like other provings, and if you' re really into provings you will really enjoy this book. If you are like myself, a busy practitioner, you will also appreciate this book since it slowed me down to carefully add a new remedy to my homeopathic materia medica. The book reflects a professional carefulness, commitment to quality and rigor.

Jeremy Sherr and his associates at the Dynamis School, are doing something that is absolutely essential for the continued evolution of our profession: careful provings. The proving does not necessarily bring out all that is necessary for us to prescribe on, but it gives the foundation necessary for a beginning understanding of a remedy. From this we can then share clinical experiences with this remedy building a solid body of dependable information to prescribe on.

Unfortunately, there are other remedies that are essential to modern practice that do not have this proving foundation. Then any and every condition and disease is claimed to be cured by them. A few of those remedies that come to mind are Folliculinum and Carcinosin. Our clinical thinking, perception and application of these remedies has become fuzzy without the foundation of the proving.

The book is well laid out with careful reference and coding of each symptom as to the prover number, the day and time the symptom appeared after commencing the proving. Symptoms are arranged alphabetically according to the repertory schema. At the back of the book are repertory additions. Unfortunately the pages are not numbered.

Congratulations to Jeremy and his colleagues for his dedication; Hahnemann would be proud. Thank you for your work. This is truly an advance for our profession.
